Our Curriculum Night is on Monday, August 15, 2016. I hope to see you there! Teachers will be sharing topics of learning, handing out the syllabus and other important information concerning your child's learning.
It Takes a Village... How do people handle Adversity? Unit One We started our Unit on Adversity by learning about The Life of Gabrielle Douglas AKA Gabby Douglas. She is representing the USA winning a Gold Medal in Gymnastics! Students have learned that life hasn't always been easy for Gabby. She is a true example of being an over comer of adversity. I am excited to be teaching AC ELA this year. We started the year setting Goals. I want my students to think about the 'how'. Many students set the goals but didn't state the 'how to' get the goal accomplished. We will be working on that throughout the year.
We kicked off the year learning about Habits of a Scholar and did a group activity of matching words and definitions. We will be revisiting Habits of a Scholar in the upcoming weeks. We want to form good habits and do the best possible job at all we do! Mrs. Rodriguez Students are signed up for ReadTheory.org where students can read on their lexile and earn badges as they read. Students will progress through reading lexiles, improve their reading comprehension and read different genres. Students will have an opportunity to go to the computer lab once a week to use ReadTheory. I encourage students do use ReadTheory at home or at the public library.
Happy Reading- Mrs. Rodriguez I am encouraging my students to try different things and not be afraid of failing. Here is our theme song: What is adversity? students learned the meaning of adversity and ways to overcome it. Students watched a video. We will be learning about different individuals who have faced and overcame adversity. Aron Ralston, Bethany Hamilton, Nick Vujicic. Greetings Parents!
As you know; the year begins with a load of paperwork coming home for you to sign and return. Please be on the look out for a Cobb County folder with important information and forms that you need to read, sign and return. The Locator Card is two-sided and sometimes parents forget to look on the back of the card. If this happens the card will be returned to you for completion. The Locator Card is important in order to have lockers issued to students. I also signed my classes up for Remind101 https://remind.com/join/3d82a4 It is a great way for us to communicate when projects are due, assignments are due or if a quiz/test is coming up! I send out gentle reminders. I will also be sending home a copy of of Remind101 Looking forward to a great year! Mrs. Rodriguez |
